Update from Zainab's Mother

This is Khadija AlMousawi, Zainab's mother and I am writing this message on her behalf, because she is too weak to write.
In the past few days Zainab's health has deteriorated and she has had trouble breathing with fast heart beat. In the last two days she was having trouble standing up or sitting straight and I had to give her water using a spoon.
In such circumstances she was visited by people from human rights organizations who promised to do all they can for her detained family and requested that Zainab ends her hunger strike especially since she could not speak on behalf of her loved ones in detention due to the hunger strike.
Moreover, Nabeel Rajab the Head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, who is also a close friend of the family, requested the same. Family members who visited Zainab were extremely worried about her health.
Based on these requests, Zainab decided to end her hunger strike on its tenth day, which is today, thanking all those who joined her and those who supported her all over the world. She would also like to thank all the journalists who wrote about her case and would like to tell everyone that we got news about her father Abdulhadi, her husband Wafi AlMajed, and her brother-in-law Hussein Ahmed as the Ministry of Interior contacted us and asked that we take clothes for them.
As soon as she feels better, Zainab will be writing to thank you all herself.

  8. Honestly, I went through hunger strike starting on 18-4-2011, I felt so tired today & couldn’t resist the pain specially I’m anemic. I’m very happy that’s she finally decided to end her starvation because seriously we don’t want to lose strong people like her !
But ending hunger strike won’t let us stop praying for our sweet dream to some true.
    Bless you.

  11. ainab, you are a role model for peaceful protestors around the world - you are leading the example in a way that shames the Bahraini government with their unrestrained violence and exposes their complete and utter disregard for their OWN people. You are an inspiration. Starting tomorrow I will start a three day hunger strike in support of your family and all the people who have had their rights stripped away from them. Your father must be so proud of you and your little girl will grow up with a hero for a mother .

    Love and peace

  12. I am so relieved by this news. I believe Zainab made her point and the support she garnered speaks volumes. All those who joined her hunger strike deserve respect and gratitude as well. I am very, very glad to know that the men are alive and look forward to news of a visit, and then, release. Bahrain's government must wake up and realize it cannot continue its pattern of abuse and torture !

  13. Nora you must be mistaking the people here fore the cowards working the Bahraini government - no one here is afraid of telling the truth. You can live in total and complete denial if you want to but you are supporting murderers, frauds and thieves - if you look deep down you will know that the accusations that you are making are complete fabrications. Your blind references to Iran and Shi'a are only showing your ignorance more - if you want to be a slave to a family who at the end of the day are human beings and make mistakes just like anyone else, then go right ahead and enjoy your life with your head down - people all around the world are standing up with one voice and the ugliness of your governments actions are as clear as daylight there is no doubt about it.

And next time you try to attack someone in such a cowardly way, think about how you would feel if the exact same thing happened to your father, your brother in law, your uncle and your husband. Of course I know you won't because in your eyes all human beings are probably not equal so a Khawaja's suffering won't mean as much to you as your own family member suffering. I guess that's not a very Islamic way of thinking - but that just shows the hypocrisy of the people in the world unfortunately. Maybe one day you will set aside your blind beliefs and actually use the brain which God has blessed you with and make use of the mouth and ears and eyes you have to spread some good in the world rather than advocating hatred and supporting murderers.
    Peace.

calling ppl who defend my beloved country cowards is really low, i ve got nothing to say to a traitor who stabbed Bahrain in the back, wanted to sell it to Iran and NO one can deny that we all know how "some" take their orders from turban wearers in Iran they have no loyalty for this land they follow blindly their turban men so who is the slave
I will always defend my country and any other country being bombarded by backwardness like Iran, iraninas wan a good life they want their oil revenues but their turban rulers spend it on aimless agenda

God bless, denial is like cancer, wish you get well soon

  19. If you knew that you were fighting the same people that love Bahrain just as much as every other Bahraini - you wouldn't be saying what you are saying now. I think it's almost funny that you are talking about denial when you can't see that this sectarianism is a blatant 'Divide and Conquer' tactic - a military strategy that Napoleon exercised in Egypt centuries ago - it is a good thing that Egyptians love being Egyptian above everything else, which is why they show true solidarity and is a strong country. I am heartbroken to see that a country that I love (although I am not bahraini) is being torn apart from within by the same philosophy. WAKE UP PEOPLE. YOU have to know your real enemy - it's not the people you are attacking and ganging up against right now.

All I'm saying is, for the love of God and all things you hold sacred to yourself - get some perspective and get the facts for yourself. Also, I'd really honestly love to know the cold hard evidence linking Iraq to Bahraini protesters. Once you can find me this, along with their intention to 'take over' the Bahraini political arena, I will be the first to denounce the protest in Bahrain. Enough with these supposedly undeniable facts. I'm a lawyer - I want authority on the matter.

No one denies you your right to defend your country,
